When the Bengali groom arrives, he is taken to the mandap and offered a cloth to wear till the ritual is completed. The bride sits on a piri and her brothers lift the piri and take 7 rounds around the groom. Then the bride removes the betel leaves covering her face, and eye contact between the bride and groom takes place. Like in other Indian weddings, the exchange of garlands takes place, then the bride's hand is given to the hands of the groom. Six rounds of walking around the sacred fire take place between the bride and groom. Then sindoor is put on the bride's forehead.
