Uttarakhand is formerly known as Uttaranchal, is a state in the northern part of India.Being located in the Himalayas, Uttarakhand has many tourist destinations. There are many ancient temples, forest reserves, national parks, hill stations, and mountain peaks that attract a large number of tourists. The state has nationally protected monuments. Ganga and Yamuna, two of the holiest rivers of Hinduism, originate in Uttarakhand. Binsar Devta is a popular Hindu temple in the region.
Now if we talk about the history of this state then Uttarakhand is also known for the 1970s mass movement that led to the formation of the Chipko Environmental Movement and other social movements. Although primarily a livelihood movement rather than a forest conservation movement, it became a rallying point for many future environmentalists, environmental protests, and agitations around the world and set a precedent for non-violent protest.
